Keeping our community safe
Our approach to safety
We are committed to creating a welcoming and secure environment for all attendees. Our dedicated team works diligently to ensure that everyone can celebrate with confidence and peace of mind. We also acknowledge public safety measures and law enforcement agencies have not always protected marginalized communities and have upheld systems of injustice and harm.
This safety policy seeks to clarify how Denver Pride addresses and prioritizes public safety at our events, in collaboration with a wide range of community partners.
Specific safety and accessibility information for each Denver Pride event can be found on their individual event pages.
Safety Personnel & Community Partnerships
Denver Pride works with a coordinated team of private safety staffers, local responders, and state and federal partners, alongside our internal safety teams, to ensure a safe and celebratory environment for everyone.
To produce an event of this size, we are required to work with Denver Police Department. We employ the minimum required number of DPD officers needed to produce this event and supplement with multiple private safety companies.
We also understand why some attendees, particularly those from marginalized communities, may feel uncomfortable about the presence of law enforcement or uniformed personnel. Our team is committed to ensuring these partnerships are used strategically, sparingly, and with respect, and that community care remains the foundation of our safety efforts.
Denver Police Department has agreed not to march in uniform during the Parade, and will not be exhibiting or recruiting during Denver Pride events. On-duty officers at any Denver Pride event have opted to staff the event on their own volition and will be clearly identifiable.
Our safety team, with the support of the Denver Police Department, is committed to preventing ICE presence at Denver Pride. DPD will not be complying with ICE – their priority is the safety of our attendees. We are also working with local grassroots organizations to prevent ICE presence and violence during Pride and beyond. These organizations will be present at Denver Pride and will provide information and resources we can all use to keep our communities safe.
