This strike is taking place the Friday before (but is separate of) Denver Pride Festival to show solidarity as the Two-Spirit and LGBTQ+ community for climate justice. We cannot have pride parades or festivals if we do not have clean air, water or earth. We also want to highlight the different struggles and movements occurring in our Denver and International communities. We believe climate justice is social justice, it’s time we come together and fight for our Earth.

Join our coalition of partners on Friday June 14th at the Denver Capitol Building on the west steps at 10PM for a Global day of action for climate! Bring your best climate signs and stand with our youth! More detailed instructions will be released shortly.

We, the youth of America have been striking after hearing that we have less than a decade left to transform our energy system, reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, and prevent the worst effects of climate change the world has ever seen.

We are striking because our political leaders have yet to acknowledge, prioritize, or properly address our climate crisis.

We are striking because marginalized communities across our nation —especially communities of color, disabled communities, and low- income communities— are already disproportionately impacted by climate change.

We are striking because if the social order is disrupted by our refusal to attend school or work, then the system is forced to face the climate crisis and enact change.

With our futures at stake, we call for radical legislative action to combat climate change and its countless detrimental effects on the American people. We are striking for the Green New Deal, for a fair and just transition to a 100% renewable economy, and for ending the creation of additional fossil fuel infrastructure. Additionally, we believe the climate crisis should be declared a national emergency because we are running out of time.

Environmental rights are social rights. We want to draw attention to the importance of climate justice during pride month to remind our beautiful, colorful, powerful community that we too play a role in this and we must act now! There is no time left to wait. RISE WITH US!!!
